Bus accident in the Kavrepalanchok district of the Birta Deurali village, which is centrally located in the Asian country. There were at least 28 people injured in the deadly crash, as well, the Associated Pres reported.
The accident happened when the bus went off the road and fell nearly 500 feet, according to the Global Times. The bus, which was headed from the capital city of Kathmandu to Koshipari, in Kavrepalanchok, veered off the road about 1 p.m. local time.
One local official told Agence France-Presse that inclement weather was preventing any swift progress during a rescue and recover mission at the site of the accident. “Rescue workers are still recovering bodies but rain is making their work difficult. We cannot ascertain the final toll right now,” said Bhim Kanta Sharma, the deputy district chief of Kavre.Survivors were being airlifted via helicopter to hospitals in Kathmandu, which is located about 50 miles west of the accident scene.Some photos claiming to be from the deadly scene have begun to emerge on social media.
